Our High School holds a weekly Chapel and last week they kicked off the year in a bit of a different way!
Students gathered into their Crew Groups* and were instructed to make a recipe for a stew. It wasn’t just any ordinary stew they were creating though. These were special Community Stew recipes based on a bible verse they were given. Taking inspiration from the verse, they wrote down their ingredients, how to assemble the stew and gave it a name.
A few of the verses assigend were:
“And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:14
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. – Romans 15:5-7
“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” – 1 Peter 3:8
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” -1 Corinthians 1:10
After the Stew Activity the students enjoyed some more community building time outside with lunch courtsey of our cafeteria and some good ol’ fashioned tug of war games!
*Crew Groups: mixed-grade groups assembled to help build community in the school. These students stay together in these groups every year, adding new students to the groups as the grade 12’s graduate. They do different activities together throughout the year.
