The calendar page has turned to December, telling us that this month’s focus is on the servant-worker through line. It is also Advent, a time of waiting for a King. To some, these two foci may seem to be a bit contradictory. Servant? King? At the Monday morning gathering at ECWS this week, teacher Rod Snaterse reminded all the students and staff that the King we await this advent season “did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped . . .” but instead, he humbled himself and became a servant. All of us know that servant attitude eventually led Christ down the “via dolorosa” (road of suffering) to a place called Golgotha.
At Edmonton Christian Schools it is our deep hope that students, as servant workers, will strive to heal brokenness and bring joy to individuals and to culture. When we need to know what that looks like, we need look no further than THE servant-worker whom we await this Advent. May God bless us all with Christ-like hearts, not only this season, but always.
